Details: Mexican dining, family-style cuisine seems to be the trademark of Rancho Alegre Restaurante, located behind Rancho a Un Otro Market on Hwy 5. Breakfast is their specialty, serving a large number of people each morning. However, we chose dinner as our meal to check out the establishment. The owner graced our table with his presence, the grandchildren playing hide-and-seek, table to table, and he told us about his restaurant and some history about his family. He did not gloat about the quality of his food, but after indulging in a fantastic Mocajete, he certainly had room to boast! By the time we finished our meal, I felt I knew Andres, through his pretty good English and my attempts at broken Spanish, and felt like a guest in his home. Completely owned and operated by Andres and his family, Rancho Alegre makes a great place to host family functions and treat out-of-town guests. It is suggested that advance reservations are made for large groups.
